Customer Service

We have all heard the saying "the customer is always right", this was how customers were treated back when I was trained as a service person in the business world. Today this seems to be a quote that has vanished as well as not stressed at all in most business establishments of today. As a small business owner, this quote is still one that I truly believe will make or break a business. This morning on my way to work I stopped at a fast-food restaurant to purchase breakfast and I was treated fairly rudely by the cashier and the manager. I decided to leave after I had been standing in line for a couple of minutes without being helped. I ponder this on the way from leaving, what if I was an irate customer which I am not, I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt, maybe someone call in and they were shorthanded, I don't know. What I am trying to stress is that customers are the ones who pay your salary, so, therefore, you should try with everything in you to accommodate them. I do know by working with the public if you are ever faced with a demanding customer it takes skill and grace to accommodate such a customer but you would be surprised at the outcome if you step back and treat this customer with respect as well as what a loyal customer this would make. I try to leave out this principle in my daily life as well. Helping someone doesn't cost you anything, especially if it's your job.
